Queensland Rail Caboolture Transformer Energisation Study

Project Description

Queensland Rail operates the passenger railway in the state of Queensland and are delivering a feeder station renewal project at Caboolture station. The current feeder station infrastructure will be replaced with new, modern equipment, which will boost traction power capacity across the North Coast network. As part of the project, new centre-tapped closely coupled single phase power transformers are installed for the first time within Queensland Rail’s traction power network.

Incite Energy was engaged to conduct network modelling and study for the energization of the new transformers.

Key Achievements

A detailed model in PSCAD was developed to ensure that transformer energisation does not cause disturbances to the electricity grid upstream under all foreseeable scenarios.
