‘Get up! Stand Up! Show Up!’ was the theme for this year’s NAIDOC week. A few weeks ago, Incite Energy Director of Decarbonisation and Energy Integration, Kody Ponds, discussed with the team at Yorgas Yarning the key role Aboriginal people must play as the world battles climate change; “NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures, histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. Aboriginal people are the original caretakers of this country and have over 60,000 years of knowledge that should be integrated into climate action. As we battle the challenges of climate change together, it’s up to all of us to listen and empower our First Nations people so that their knowledge can be shared, respected, and utilised for the benefit of countries and the people.”
