Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has just released its first Public Interim Report for Project EDGE (Energy Demand and Generation Exchange), moving the NEM a step closer to a two-sided marketplace for Distributed Energy Resources (DER). Aggregators will play a key role in this marketplace, acting primarily as an agent for the end customer, but also delivering instructions to customers on behalf of the network.
Under the existing NEM framework, responding to local network issues had the potential to put an aggregator in conflict between their duel role as a customer agent and market agent. However, it is encouraging to see that Project EDGE is contemplating service pricing as an option to incentivise aggregators to prioritise local network services where required, rather than reaching in to overrule a market-based solution.
Incite Energy looks forward to working with AEMO and the broader industry to resolve these questions in due course for the benefit of all market participants.
