Today Incite Energy Managing Director, Greg Denton, participated in an Energy Governance and the Engineering Voice Roundtable organised by Engineers Australia. Discussion at the roundtable was focused on Engineers Australia’s call for a national transition plan for energy. Greg highlighted that the AEMO’s Integrated System Plan performed this function – but welcomed additional engineering input and commentary on the pathways articulated in it.

As an energy economist who has spent his career working alongside engineers, in response to EAs position that market mechanisms will be fraught with problems, Greg quipped that “Engineers need to acknowledge that as well as the need for planning and control, there is also a need for markets and the dynamism they bring. Planned economies fail in the same way unplanned engineering project do!”

Greg was able to share Incite Energy’s approach to energy market governance – “Where we acknowledge the desirability of, and advocate for, consistent national policy objectives, but focus on the investigation, design and implementation of projects that are delivering the energy transition.”
