Transparency in Australia’s energy future

Incite Energy Managing Director, Greg Denton comments on the need for ‘transparency’ as Ministers announce reset of Australia’s energy future.

“The decisions taken by Commonwealth Government Energy Minister Bowen and the State Energy Ministers last Friday are to be commended. Ending consideration of the Energy Security Board’s capacity mechanism will give comfort to the market. Our view is that State Governments already contract to manipulate the entry and exit of generation capacity – perhaps we just need more transparency on these processes going forward?

More importantly – the decision to include in emissions in the National Energy Objectives has been a long time coming. It will formalise the inclusion of emission costs in all economic and financial modelling going forward. It will help justify needed investment in transmission infrastructure and accelerate the transition.”
